Silence II

Category : Black & White · No Comments · by Feb 2nd, 2017

Approximately a year ago I visited this place in the morning and it was very silent. This time it was in the afternoon and I had my Mamiyaflex twin reflex camera with me. The lake was frozen and a whole flock of American Coots was resting on the ice. The fog was rolling and it seemed like the frozen lake and the fog joined in to a seamless grey infinite ambience. Standing there and observing Coots landing on ice and sliding while masterfully keeping their balance was so peaceful. It seemed they were kind of enjoying it.

A Postcard from Ljubljana

Category : Black & White, Street photography · No Comments · by Jan 31st, 2017

I remember the days I started with photography.  I lived in one of the most beautiful cities in the world – Ljubljana. And I remember how I wanted to travel to some exotic city to make some photos. Today I live abroad, and I get excited every time I travel to Ljubljana, to take some photos. When I get there, it feels kind of strange. It feels exotic and domestic at the same time.
So, through the years some rolls of undeveloped film got piled up in my drawer. I started developing them and every roll has a photo or two from Ljubljana. I titled this photo “A Postcard from Ljubljana”, as it feels like I just received a postcard from my hometown. It feels kind of cool to develop old (well, not really that old, only two years or so) negatives… Oh, and I noticed that stand up paddling is really popular on the Ljubljanica river. I have to try it out someday!

Note to myself: Next time use a different developer with the Efke 100 film. For a relatively slow film, it’s grain gets kind of gritty soaked in Rodinal.

Flight IV

Category : Black & White · No Comments · by Jan 30th, 2017

Today I developed a roll of Efke 100 film that has been sitting in my drawer for a long time now. I didn’t even know when, where and with what camera I shot it. All I knew is, that it was in my drawer with bunch of other unprocessed rolls. Well, it was shot with a plastic toy camera with 4 lenses that I got in a camera trade I did with a fellow photogapher. I could say it is a LOMO camera, but I am afraid it is not even a genuine one. It looks like a knock off. Which is cool! So, he basically gave it to me for fun. And it is fun, given that it has a plastic lens and a quirky buzzing shutter, which is actually a rotating plastic disc with a hole in it that makes 4 exposures in half a second on one 24 x 36 mm frame. There were not many keepers on the roll, but I like this one a lot.

In Search of Composition

Category : Abstract, Black & White · No Comments · by Jan 8th, 2017

It is Sunday today. Woke up early, even though I didn’t set the alarm. It was still dark and I saw some fresh snow has fallen during the night. Packed my bag and headed out. I like going to a nearby pond where they dig gravel, it has an interesting mix of natural and industrial scenery. In the mornings there is not a single soul there except for a couple dog walkers and runners that pass by. Today something caught my eye and I spent quite some time there. That was me, in search of composition.

Remembering a Good Friend

Category : Analogna fotografija, Black & White · No Comments · by Dec 17th, 2016

Last week I finally started developing films again after quite a while, as I got all the necessary equipment again after moving. I just developed a film that has been sitting on a shelf for the last two years and on one of the frames I met a dear friend that passed away about a year ago.
It has been a while since we last met and your last months where a bit tough…
But Vencl, this is exactly how I remember you – with a bandana around your neck, a smile in your eyes and one of your many chewed up tennis balls in your mouth.

Down by the Water

Category : Black & White, Landscape · No Comments · by Dec 5th, 2016

I like going to this place. It is calm and beautiful. The irony is, it is an industrial lake where they dig pebbles.
This time around I visited it with a homemade lens that I got once in a trade deal on an antique market. It looks funny and is not particularly sharp, but I can easily say that it doesn’t lack character.
