Convergence / Konvergenca

Category : Abstract, Arhitektura, Black & White · by Apr 30th, 2015

Being on a location and focusing on the subject I am shooting, always opens some new perspectives for me. Here is another perspective, subtracted (or better said abstracted) from the scene of two previous posts. I am slightly crazy about abstractions, as you may have already noticed and I really enjoy searching for new ones. I would say my greatest admiration in abstract photography goes to the great artists of the 20th century, the pioneers of abstract photography: Jaroslav Rossler, Laszlo Moholy Nagy, Man Ray, Manuel Alvarez Bravo and Otto Steinert, just to name a few. I mean, one can’t dive into abstract photography without getting to know the works of these masters! Just like one can’t not know Kandinsky and Mondrian’s artworks if he likes any kind of abstract art…

Wassily Kandinsky once had a thought about abstract art that stayed with me every since:

Of all the arts, abstract painting is the most difficult. It demands that you know how to draw well, that you have a heightened sensitivity for composition and for color, and that you be a true poet. This last is essential.

I would say for myself I find abstract photography easier as shapes, lines and colors are already there, one just has to find them and compose them. One the other hand, some probably find it easier to start from empty canvas…
